The Arab Union
• The development of the common relations that the Arab railway networks have known during the sixth and the seventh decades of the last century was a period of a similar development . they met the same difficulties and have lived the same circumstances .
The importance of the cooperation, the exchange of the experience, the common planification between them have necessitated the creation of a common Arab organization able to contribute and to help for the realization of these targets

Realizations
• Since its creation the union continues the organization of the periodical scientific symposiums every two years . These symposiums deal with the most important problems at the Arab and International railway level . Eleven symposiums have been organized till now in the Arab countries members of the Union .
• The union has organized a number of special seminars which have dealt with the difficulties that the Arab railways encounter and have allowed to the Arab companies to show their activities in the field of studies, construction of railway tracks and manufacturing of their material and their machines .
• The union has contributed to the organization of a number of an important congresses and meetings in the field of transportation and railway tracks . Among the most important, the Arab transport congress, the celebration organized on the occasion of the century ( 150years) of the Egyptian railways, the celebration organized on the occasion of the century ( 100years) of the Syrian railways, the first railway symposium organized in Libya and the international symposium of bogies .
• The union has organized a number of professional courses to raise the level of the staff training with the collaboration of the administrations and the institutes of Arab training and the specialized international railways organizations .
• Since its creation the union publishes regularly an annual statistic whole concerning the compounds and the activities of the Arab railway networks, a specialized periodical magazine comprising the most modern studies and investigations in the railway field . At the present day, 84 issues have been published, in plus to a guide comprising the specialized Arab railway companies , to a number of important technical and financial rules aiming to unify the rules adopted by the Arab railways among others the technical unified operating rule and the accounting rule .
• Among the important realizations of the union, the general vocabulary of the railway terms, the appending of the Arab language to the general vocabulary that the international union of railways has published under the form of a computerized disc CD-ROM and the publication of a number of a specialized vocabularies .
• In the frame of the directives of the ministries council of the Arab transportation, of the Arab States league and of the Arab economical unity council, the union works and organizes the cooperation relations with Arab, International and Regional specialized organizations and unions in view to develop the Arab railway networks, the methods of their operating, to play their role in the economical growth and realize the Arab economical union .
